Introduction
We are today faced with the new reality of global neo-nationalism and
economic neoliberalism, a fast-paced technological revolution, and climate and environmental change. This new reality aggravates political rifts and extreme nationalism, polarization due to exclusion and monopolization, and discord and hate in our society. The lightning pace of technological evolution poses many questions as to the directions
that humanity’s existence will take in the future.
How should the arts respond to this new reality? In promoting coexistence
and symbiosis alongside qualitative growth and the social practice of arts
and culture transcending the aesthetic and symbolic significance and value
of the arts, as well as their economic value as an industry, an “artistic
response” to new values is becoming a crucial topic of discourse.
PAMS Salon 2019 is a collaboration with institutions in and outside of the
country, as well as private sector experts, to provide an arena for themed
discussion, information exchanges, and networking on various practical
issues pertaining to the arts and culture as a response to the new reality
unfolding before our eyes. On the topics of “Diversity, accessibility and
inclusion in the performing arts and international mobility development”,
“Case studies of cultural practices in/with the local communities,” “Socially
engaged art practice and its value in art education,” “Staging the digital
age,” and “Transformation and innovation in the performing art market,” we
will discuss the possibilities for sustained growth and cooperation in the arts
market, the social value and roles of the arts, international cooperation in
the arts, and mobility thereof.
